April Lockhart

April Lockhart was born on July 4, 1995. in seventh grade. She began playing guitar and piano classes which sparked her interest in the art of songwriting. April's very first song was titled Different which she composed aged 12. At 14 April, she spent a lot of time writing songs and honed her singing skills. Over the next few months she would begin taking trips to write with her father in LA in addition to NY. April began to include different topics that were relevant to the Take my Hand song for some of her friends, like peer-pressure problems and teenage suicide. Lockhart has her own following and works as a lifestyle blogger under the popular Ilia Pure Beauty brand. Lockhart was born without a left hand. It's part of who she is--but it's far from the entirety of her story. So, Lockhart's Instagram profile doesn't hide the fact that she is disabled, but she doesn't focus on it either. What message is it trying to convey? That we all contain multitudes that our identities are complex and that we are greater than the physical person we are. Lockhart through a recorded message from Nashville's residence, declares that I do not want this to be a part of me. I am far more than just my physical body. This doesn't influence my day-to-day life. I go about doing my job as normal and have discovered my own ways to adapt. But, it's an integral part of me, so I believe that it's important to speak about. Lockhart's self-acceptance journey is one that will last for a long time, and she inspires me on this front. Still she admits she's gone through a few phases of her body at times feeling insecure to wear certain types of clothing which showed off the arms of her. The fashionista wears what she loves and is proud to post pictures of herself wearing the clothes she picks out on social media. The journey itself is the most important thing that I'm not sure to arrive at, with self-love, she claims. It's a fact that I see with anyone, no matter what their issue is.
